Montreal has ousted Boston from the playoffs in the past two seasons and Boston wants to avoid the three-peat. • The Boston Bruins were up 3-1 in the seven game series, making it one of the most competitive in the history of Montreal-Boston matchups.• Three of the seven games in this semifinal were decided by one goal.
• Up by a goal in the third period, a bench penalty for too many men on the ice was assessed to the Boston Bruins. On the subsequent power play, Guy Lafleur scored to tie the game and send it into overtime.
• Montreal advanced to the Stanley Cup finals against New York Rangers to win their fourth straight championship and the 22nd in the history of the team.
