In 1991, saving grace comes to the Argonauts in the form of a new ownership group that includes Wayne Gretzky and John Candy. Though the game hasn't made headlines in years, two high-profile names seem to immediately breathe life into the flailing east division. The Argonauts also recruit Raghib (The Rocket) Ismail, who shines in this Grey Cup game. The playoff crowd of more than 50,000 is the largest gathering to watch the Argonauts at home in eight years.'Rocketing' into the '90s
• Quarterback Matt Dunigan also made a strong showing in this game. Playing with a broken collarbone and an arm that "felt like a rag," he still insisted on playing the entire game.• One of the brightest stars of the '90s was Doug Flutie, who played for Toronto, B.C., and Calgary, setting record after record between 1992 and 1997. He is considered one of the best players to have ever played in the CFL.
• The outlook is optimistic as the Grey Cup heads into the next century. In 2002, television numbers were soaring, corporate sponsorship was on the rise and two teams that had folded before the year 2000 were back up and running (Montreal Alouettes, in 1987, and the Ottawa Rough Riders, now Renegades, in 1997).
