Old vs. new

They don't play it like they used to. At least, not according to Reverend Arthur Hare, who was a football player in his last career, 60 years ago. He's in a bar discussing the evolution of the game with CBC Radio reporter Jim Hunt and 1956 Argonaut Fred Spell. The reverend boasts of 300-pound players, a more open field and a less "sluggish" game. Spell disagrees, but plays along anyway.

• In the first few decades of Grey Cup football, many disputes centred around the difference between eastern and western styles of football. For example, the west used the forward pass long before the east did. By the early 1930s, the forward pass was incorporated into both conferences.
