A town in mourning

Broadcast Date: Oct. 6, 1994

The flag at city hall flies at half-mast in small-town Quebec. The people of Richelieu try to come to terms with the apparent suicide of their mayor and his wife who were among the dead found in Switzerland. Stunned townsfolk say that Robert Ostiguy and his wife Françoise were the lifeblood of the community. In this clip, two city councillors and other members of the community explain why they think Ostiguy and his wife were murdered.

A town in mourning

• Ostiguy was a prominent businessman who had been mayor for a year at the time of his death. He was so popular in Richelieu that when he ran for mayor in November 1993 the town not only elected him, but also two members of his campaign slate.
• Richelieu is a small town of 3,200 residents that lies 25 kilometres southeast of Montreal.
• Ostiguy and his wife left behind two sons.
