In the soft glow of the television screen, the dolls seem enchanting. They walk and talk and skip down a path singing. Kids are convinced that they must have 'em. In real life, the magic is gone. The dolls don't bend and talk like on TV. Instead, they simply spew out the same phrases over and over and over again. • The Canadian Toy Testing Council has been evaluating toys since 1952. Toys are separated into categories including imaginative play, educational toys, active play and developmental toys. The council also urges parents to analyze commercials with their children before purchasing.
• The Canadian Toy Testing Council estimates that children watch an average of two and a half hours of television every day.
