Expodition: Transit strike hits Expo 67

Broadcast Date: Sept. 26, 1967

Stick out your thumb, don your walking boots, hop on a London double-decker, or hail a cab – but if you're going to Expo 67, don't bother waiting for the bus. Ever since Montreal's transit drivers walked off the job, Expo organizers have been frantically arranging other ways for visitors and staff to get to the site. This episode of Expodition goes offsite to learn how other methods of transport are filling the gap.

Expodition: Transit strike hits Expo 67

• Bus and metro drivers with the Montreal Transit Commission suddenly walked off the job on the evening of Sept. 21, 1967, forcing about 100,000 Expo visitors to find other ways back to their homes and hotels.
• Despite officials' fears about the strike's impact on admissions, an average of 183,000 people attended the fair on each of the strike's first four days. Typical numbers for the period would have been about 200,000.
