Tommy Banks Live
Alan Thicke, talk show host
Broadcast Date: March 3, 1983
Tonight, it's Alan Thicke's turn to be the guest. Soon, however, he'll be asking the questions as host of Thicke of the Night, a syndicated U.S. talk show that's already being hyped as competition to Johnny Carson's mighty Tonight Show. In this interview from the CBC television program Tommy Banks Live, Thicke explains how he manages to perform such varying roles as writer, producer, author, composer, and now host: he puts himself in the position of the audience, and works from there.
Alan Thicke, talk show host
• Alan Thicke was born March 1, 1947, in Kirkland Lake, Ont.• He hosted a Canadian daytime talk show, The Alan Thicke Show, from 1980 to 1983 on CTV. He was then signed by MGM to switch to late-night with Thicke of the Night, but that show lasted only one year.
• Thicke followed up his late-night hosting job with the acting role he is best known for: that of dad Jason Seaver in the long-running comedy series Growing Pains. The show ran for seven seasons, beginning in 1985, and was followed in 2000 and 2004 with made-for-television reunion films, The Growing Pains Movie and Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers.
