Take 30

It was afternoon TV for homemakers, but Take 30 assumed women's interests went beyond recipes and child rearing. The program aired from 1962 to 1984, but may be best remembered for its late '60s/early '70s era with hosts Adrienne Clarkson and Paul Soles. The CBC Digital Archives has over 60 clips from Take 30, plus 12 complete shows from 1964 to 1971 with celebrity interviews and topics including teen sex, censorship, pornography and the back-to-the-land movement.

Adrienne and Paul in London town

Broadcast Date: Oct. 7, 1966

In fashion and music, there's only one place that's truly happening in 1966: London. The miniskirt and mod sounds have made the city the centre of all that is young and cool, and Take 30 wants to bring some of that flavour to viewers. In this episode, Adrienne Clarkson stops by the fashion atelier Quorum to learn about style from owner Alice Pollock and designer Ossie Clark. Then it's time for a stop round the pub for a chat with Paul Jones, lead singer of the pop group Manfred Mann.

• This episode also features brief interviews with members of The Who. Performances by The Who had to be edited out for copyright reasons.

• Ossie Clark peaked as a designer from 1965 to 1973, then fell off the radar in the 1980s. Among Clark's clients were Mick Jagger and his wife Bianca. Many of his designs were collaborations with fabric designer Celia Birtwell, who was his wife from 1969 to 1974. Clark was murdered in 1996 by a former lover, but his name lives on in a clothing label revived in 2007.

• Today Manfred Mann is probably best known for their 1964 hit cover of Do Wah Diddy Diddy, by the songwriting duo Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry.

• Paul Jones, interviewed in this clip, had a solo career in music before he branched out into acting and broadcasting. As of 2008 he hosts a Christian TV program with his wife and
has a weekly radio show playing rhythm and blues music on BBC 2. He also tours with the Manfreds, a group of mostly original members of Manfred Mann.
