'Your songs are our songs,' says CBC Radio's Peter Gzowski to Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot. Having penned and recorded such classics including The Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Early Mornin' Rain, the composer from Orillia, Ontario became the quiet leader of the folk music movement in Canada. In this Morningside interview, Lightfoot shyly describes his writing process and modestly chats about his early mentors Ian and Sylvia Tyson and Bob Dylan.

• A true legend, Lightfoot received the Order of Canada in 1970. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame in 1986 and in 1997 he received the Governor General's award.
• Lightfoot briefly tried his luck as an actor and starred in the Bruce Dern film Harry Tracy. He later appeared on the television show Hotel before deciding that he would devote himself entirely to music.
