Matinee

This popular radio show echoed the changing lives of women in the 1950s and 1960s. Debuting in 1952 as a women's interest show, Matinee featured stories on fashion, housekeeping, cooking and books. By 1967 the weekday show denied it was a ladies program.” Broader, racier content included stories on the environment and conjugal visits – but women could still learn how to be a gracious hostess, simply and easily. Originally called Trans-Canada Matinee, and later Pat Patterson's Matinee, hosts included Bill Bessey, Betty Tomlinson, Pat Patterson, Ed Reid, Helen Hutchinson and Dan Finkleman.
