Howie Meeker Hockey School: Serious stick-handling
Broadcast Date: Dec. 5, 1976
Anyone can master puck control — it just takes practice and lots of it, Howie Meeker says in this stick-handling episode. First, make sure the grip is right and "squeeze that stick until the sawdust comes out of it." Next, roll the wrists to move the puck. Three drills help cement the lesson, including a Russian drill that teaches kids to go down on one knee and stick handle in for a shot. Oh, and in case you missed Meeker's earlier advice, "cut the gall-darn sticks!"Howie Meeker Hockey School: Serious stick-handling
• Howie Meeker was a television analyst for the famed Canada-Soviet series in 1972 and during that series came to respect the Russian emphasis on skills training for young skaters.
