Sir John A. Macdonald's great grandson, Hugh Macdonald Gainsford

Broadcast Date: Aug. 10, 1967

Hugh Macdonald Gainsford has a personal Centennial project. As the last living descendent of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, Gainsford has gone to the birthplace of his great-grandfather: Glasgow, Scotland. Gainsford finds the room Macdonald was born in 1815 and learns its history from the current occupant. In a pub downstairs, Gainsford and CBC reporter Craig Oliver hoist a glass and discuss Macdonald's legendary drinking.
