• Lester Pearson and his Liberals won a second consecutive minority government in the Nov. 8, 1965 federal election.

• On Nov. 11, 1965, Rhodesia (now called Zimbabwe) declared its independence from British rule.

• Dominican Republic was in the midst of a civil war in 1965.

• Alex Trebek is best known as the long-time host of the popular award-winning U.S. television quiz show, Jeopardy. He has received two Emmy Awards as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work on Jeopardy.

• Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ont. He graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Philosophy.

• Trebek hosted the CBC game show Reach for the Top from 1966 to 1973. In 1973 he moved to the United States to host a new game show called The Wizard of Odds. In 1984 he was chosen to host the revived version of the trivia game show Jeopardy.
