Who is this serious academic?

• This is Michael Ignatieff, a Canadian writer, historian, university professor and politician. He worked as director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University until 2005, when he accepted a teaching position at the University of Toronto. Soon afterward, he announced his intention to run as a Liberal in the 2006 election. He won the Etobicoke-Lakeshore riding in 2006 and was re-elected in 2008.

• Ignatieff's book The Russian Album, which he is discussing in this interview, won the 1987 Governor General's Award for non-fiction.

• Michael's father George was accomplished in politics, serving as Canada's ambassador to Yugoslavia, NATO and the United Nations as well as president of the United Nations Security Council.
