Kid Lit: Morningside Children's Book Panels

Beginning in the fall of 1982, the members of the children's book panel, which became a holiday tradition, provided listeners with a guide through the new stack of books available each year.  CBC Archives has selected six episodes to feature, and among the many titles and authors you may find some old friends or discover some new ones.  So whether you're off to the library, bookstore, or doing some online buying, you too can take inspiration from their choices.

CBC Radio's Morningside has assembled a panel of three stellar reviewers of children's books – Michele Landsberg is a columnist for the Toronto Star, Judy Sarick owns the Children's Bookstore in Toronto and Virginia Davis is the director of The Children's Book Centre in Toronto.  The breadth of their knowledge and experience in this area is wide, but what these three reviewers bring to the discussion is an unabashed love for children's books.  After they establish some basic principles involved in choosing picture books – and they all agree that there are no rules – they tell us the story of what's new in the world of picture books in 1982.
