Terry Fox 25: Reliving the Marathon of Hope
This is how it all began. On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox began an epic cross-country journey to raise money for cancer research. CBC Radio and Television followed Terry's Marathon of Hope from the beginning. To celebrate this historic event, we present these reports as they were first aired.

After 4,000 kilometres of training, Terry Fox is eager to begin his Marathon of Hope. In addition to raising money for cancer research, Terry wants to prove to other cancer victims that any challenge can be overcome.Terry tells CBC Radio's Ted Withers how he customized his artificial leg, its mechanical problems and how he will deal with the inevitable roadside breakdowns. As for organic problems like blisters and shin splints: he just accepts them.
