Before Exploring
Rick Hansen has received numerous awards for increasing public awareness about the potential and abilities of disabled people and for raising millions of dollars for spinal cord research.
Outline the Opportunity
Students will design a new award that honours Rick Hansen’s accomplishments and encompasses the mandates of at least five prestigious awards that he has already received. The award must include the following:
An illustration that depicts the accomplishments of Rick Hansen A citation explaining the purpose or criteria of the new award Students should make sure their awards recognize actual achievements and that they are aesthetically pleasing.
Revisit and Reflect
Students can break into small groups to share and discuss their awards. They should be prepared to ask and answer questions. Display the awards in the class.
