It is through the work of many individuals that the Festival has enjoyed such success. Ask students to brainstorm the jobs that are involved in creating a theatre festival such as the Stratford Festival (for example, development, training, wardrobe, stage management, acting, design, production, music, marketing, communications, properties, or box office). Then have them think about which of those jobs interests them, and write a brief journal entry describing a Festival-related role about which they would like to learn more.

Explain to students that they will be writing a profile of one person connected to the Stratford Festival. Have them visit the Stratford Festival topic on the CBC Radio and Television Archives Web site and choose one person to study in detail. If they wish, they can do a more in-depth Internet search about that person.

When their research is complete, students will write a profile. In the profile, students should describe the person, interesting aspects of his or her personality, what that person does at Stratford, and why that person chooses to be at Stratford. The profile should be informative, interesting, and well-organized.

Students can share their work with their classmates. Have students offer specific details to support their opinion about why their subject's contribution to the Festival is important.

Students can extend their profiles into a feature article for a magazine or newspaper with an attention-getting headline, an entertaining lead, and if possible, a photograph or sketch.
