1 lesson
Purpose
To gain an understanding of the creation and evolution of the Stratford Festival

Before Exploring
Ask students to volunteer what they already know about the Stratford Festival. Explain that they will be learning more about the Stratford Festival through the CBC Radio and Television Archives Web site. Clarify for them how their study of the festival connects to the topic you are currently exploring in class.
Outline the Opportunity
Have students visit the Stratford Festival topic on the CBC Radio and Television Archives Web site. They should have their pens and notebooks with them. Ask them to spend 20 minutes exploring the site, scanning the titles, subtitles, story summaries, and visuals. Have them complete the information chart on the download sheet About the Stratford Festival.
Depending on the age, experience, or ability of your students, reduce or increase the time for exploration.
Revisit and Reflect
As students are working, note any skills which need to be reinforced. At the end of the allotted time, have students share their findings, either orally or in written form. You may also wish to list on the board or on chart paper any questions that students have about the Stratford Festival that they would like to explore through the use of this Web site. They can keep these questions in mind when they examine the site further later.
Extension
Students can use their completed information chart to write a one-paragraph summary of the Stratford Festival.
