Costello and the 'little fellow'
Broadcast Date: Jan. 26, 1979
How do you save money if you don't have much of it? It may be the most perplexing question facing millions of people trying to ensure their financial future. Brian Costello has some insight. He believes that the solution is to invest in the one thing you believe in most: yourself. In this 1979 clip from CBC-TV's Take 30, he explains how to begin doing that. "I think even people on welfare and even people around the poverty line can scrape up $10 a week."Costello and the 'little fellow'
• Brian Costello is the author five best-selling books on financial advice including Taking Care of Your Money: Multi-Dimensional Investing That Works.• In February 2003, the Ontario Securities Commission found that Costello had recommended investments without being registered as a financial adviser, in contravention of the Ontario Securities Act. The OSC decided in April 2003 that Costello would face sanctions including a reprimand, a $300,000 fine and a review of his practices as an investment adviser. He was also barred from recommending specific securities in any financial publication for five years. However, he was allowed to continue to offer general advice.
• Costello appealed the ruling but in December 2004, the Ontario Court of Appeal turned down his appeal.
