The CBC in 1965

In the 1965 Committee on Broadcasting report, the CBC was criticized for favouring television over radio. "This is a waste of both public assets and individual opportunities." (1965 Report of the Committee on Broadcasting)

To counter the growing popularity of TV, the 1965 fall/winter CBC Radio schedule aimed for "balanced programming" offering a little bit of everything, giving Canadians an alternative to what the CBC called "incessant rock n' roll or wall-to-wall music." Educational programs like Ideas were an important part of the CBC Radio mandate.

The year 1965 was the golden age of children's programming on CBC Television. Shows such as Chez Hélène, The Friendly Giant and Razzle Dazzle kept children entertained.

In 1965, future quizmaster Alex Trebek could be heard on CBC Radio reading the news.
