Choosing truth over false eyelashes

Broadcast Date: Jan. 2, 1978

"People my age need to start something new in their fifties," June Callwood tells host Barbara McLeod. At age 53, Callwood finds herself excited about a new form of journalism. She's the host of a popular CBC Television program called In Touch, a show about "empathy." Callwood seems at ease with her age and her stage in life. Even under the glare of the harsh TV lights, Callwood refuses to wear makeup, get her hair coiffed or act coquettish in front of the camera. She says it's all part of her philosophy to be truthful.
