Expodition: Music at Expo 67

Broadcast Date: May 29, 1967

Free entertainment is one of the hallmarks of Expo 67, and in today's episode of Expodition, a free jazz concert featuring Muddy Waters and the Dave Brubeck Quartet is underway. Reporter Lynn Jackson talks to teenagers about jazz, and reporter Martin Bronstein interviews saxophonist Paul Desmond. Later, Bronstein hears about the Australian music scene with bassist Athol Guy from The Seekers.

• Expo 67 hosted an impressive range of big-name international performers. Among them were French singer Maurice Chevalier, actors Marlene Dietrich and Sir Laurence Olivier, and dancers Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. Opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, still relatively unknown then, also played Expo 67.
• San Francisco rock band Jefferson Airplane, then at the peak of their success, also played Expo 67.
