Washington's Canadian blues

Broadcast Date: May 7, 1983

Anybody Home co-host Jessica Porter talks to legendary Canadian blues man Jackie Washington. Listen in for a wonderful interview with some impromptu songs, learn how a childhood illness helped his career and discover the nature of the "Canadian blues."

Washington's Canadian blues

• Jackie Washington doesn't sound like a melancholy man in this clip, but he's been singing the blues since age five, when he performed as part of The Four Washington Brothers with siblings Ormsby, Harold, and Doc.

• Jessica Porter mentions that Washington has played with many greats. They include Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot, as well as renowned blues men Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee and Lonnie Johnson.
