Country legend Hank Snow tops the charts
Broadcast Date: Sept. 25, 1982
On Nov. 23, 1962, Hank Snow's catchy travelling song, I've Been Everywhere, tops the charts. The Nova Scotia native was one of most influential figures in country music. Dubbed the "Singing Ranger," Snow recorded over 100 albums and sold more than 70 million copies. Despite his life of poverty and hardship, Snow was a man of great principle who sang about travelling and trains rather than drinking and cheating.Snow focused on the positive, as heard in this 1982 CBC interview. As record companies cut old-timers like him loose to concentrate on flashy newcomers, Snow remained optimistic. "I had accomplished things far beyond my wildest dreams in recording... I have done everything I set out to do. I'm very satisfied. I'm not a greedy person. I am very happy."
