• Barbara Frum believed Barbie dolls were the "handmaidens of evil" and the "ultimate enemy of womankind." She refused to buy her daughter a Barbie doll. Then one day an As It Happens listener sent Frum an extraordinary collection of hand-made Barbie clothes. Her daughter Linda eventually got her doll.• The CBC and the University of Toronto, Frum's alma mater, established the Barbara Frum Memorial Award in Canadian Scholarship in 1993. It's awarded each year to a student entering the first year of a graduate program doing research related to Canada.
