Expodition: A glimpse into the broadcasting machine

There are 30,000 accredited reporters from all over the globe are in Montreal to cover the happenings at Expo 67. Many of them are radio and TV broadcasters, and their home away from home is the International Broadcasting Centre. Here, they can record and produce their programs and beam them as far away as Australia using the Telstar satellite. In this segment, producers' cues not normally heard on air illustrate what goes into making radio.

• The International Broadcasting Centre was opened in November 1966.
• An estimated 650 million TV viewers in 70 countries around the world watched the opening ceremony for Expo 67.
• Broadcasting via satellite was a relatively new phenomenon in 1967. The first Telstar communications satellite was launched in 1962.
