• Ron Mann was born in Toronto in 1958. At age 18 he started making short films, resulting in a breakthrough documentary called Imagine The Sound, released in 1981. It was the story of the avant-garde jazz movement, as told by musicians Cecil Taylor, Paul Bley and Archie Shepp.• Comic Book Confidential won a Genie award in 1989 for best feature length documentary.
• Mann's films were selected to receive special recognition at the 2009 Hot Docs Festival in Toronto. Five of his documentaries were slated for screenings, including Know Your Mushrooms (2008), Grass (1999), Imagine The Sound (1981) and Comic Book Confidential.
