Impressions of Veronica Tennant

"Dancing is the way I can express the things that cannot be said.". In this interview from 1973, Veronica Tennant reveals her love of dance, art and working with Rudolf Nureyev. She also talks about her ability to perform classical dance versus modern dance, admitting that Canadian choreographers are hard to find.

Impressions of Veronica Tennant

• Veronica Tennant was born in London, England in 1946. She started her career in dance at the age of four and joined the National Ballet Company at age 18. She debuted in the title role in Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

• During her career, Tennant had the unique opportunity of dancing with two of the greatest male ballet stars: Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

• In 1989, Tennant formally retired from dancing. She started a new career as a documentary film producer and director, working mostly on movies about dance. In 2006, she wrote and directed a film about Celia Franca, founder of the National Ballet of Canada.
